Bishop John Schol sends a video message to the United Methodists of Nigeria.

Here are the keypoints:

  • We move forward in a way that says, “We’re here to honor Jesus Christ, and to advance the mission and ministry of The United Methodist Church.”
  • God has a future for us filled with peace and reconciliation.
  • Bishop Schol commits that the Path Forward Covenant is first-and-foremost about listening to the people of Nigeria. Check out the list of questions from Nigerian United Methodists and the responses from the interim episcopal team.
  • Those of you have left denomination, Bishop Schol says: “We welcome you back; we welcome you home. There is a place for you in The United Methodist Church.”
  • 41 new district superintendents were appointed in the Nigeria Episcopal Area who will begin meeting with clergy and laity in the districts to hear from the communities and to listen.
  • A new bishop will be elected for the Nigeria Episcopal Area, and Bishop Schol calls on all United Methodists to be in prayer.
  • Jeremiah 29:11 says: I did not bring you to this place for your destruction, but for a future with hope.” That is what God has for the United Methodist Church in Nigeria: A future with hope.

In Christ,
