Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.
I wish to address a recent development regarding an ongoing legal case that impacts The United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN).
I received news that the Global Methodist Church withdrew a portion of its suit against The UMCN which was then struck out by the High Court on December 10. We will also recover 100,000 naira to compensate us for legal costs associated with the removed suit.
While the overall lawsuit remains in place and is scheduled for review in early 2026, I offer gratitude to God for the removal of this single suit. I also wish to thank those who have continued to support us during this process.
I ask that you join in praying that a resolution is reached and that God’s will is done regarding this lawsuit. Pray for the day when the distractions and burdens created by legal matters are gone and we can fully focus on ministry and our calling to bring glory to God. Pray that God moves through The United Methodist Church in Nigeria in a mighty way as it goes forth to serve the community and make disciples for Jesus Christ as it has for the past 100 years.
I encourage everyone to remain steadfast in prayer, calm and peaceful even in the face of persecution and emotional times, and to be champions of truth so that we continue to reflect Christ to the world.
Signed:
Bishop I. Emmanuel Bishop of The United Methodist Church Nigeria Episcopal Area.
